delphine's mothers are both hedge witches and their marriage was celebrated as the union of two different lineages, and thus magical specialties. given the liminal nature of hedge magic, their circles considered the couple to be ✨blessed✨ and ✨ooh, how exciting!✨ it also gave delphine a reputation to live up to that she neither cultivated nor asked for.
she had questions and energy in spades. she wanted to know the how's and why's of everything around her and she wanted to hit up the library for answers. she wanted to read books and follow thrilling trails of citations back through academia. she wanted to NERD OUT, BIG-TIME. as a result, she and the intangible nature of hedge-witchery did not become the best of friends because her training was all about looking inside herself, meditating, listening to the forest, and ~ruminating in dreams.~ she didn't want to intuit!!! intuiting's confusing and boring!!!
into adulthood: big city magic.
delphine secured a scholarship and flew off to college in the big city, the least hedgiest place she could think of. out here—surrounded by concrete and steel beams—she could be herself! or at least, she could figure out what that was!
but did you know that even big cities can be powerful centres for magic? it's a dirty little secret in hedge communities, which favour the natural world and the environment, that the bustling downtown intersections can be just as potent for the right kind of witch. and delphine Was That Witch. she started getting into her magic and she was thriving.

she met lottie in college and not only did she gain a friend, but a project because lottie's curse fascinated her. it was like an agreement? but not? and also, it sucked for lottie? this brought her to her minor in magic contracts & pacts.
getting hired by the adventure society is a "fake it 'til you make it" situation. she didn't lie on her resume! but she's... definitely underqualified! she's not going to let you know that, though, and is determined to ✨ shine.
